Women Attack: Chappals Thrown @ Pookie Baba

Protest against Aniruddhacharya remark

Protests have erupted against Aniruddhacharya, popularly known as “Pookie Baba,” after his recent controversial remark about women. The well-known katha vachak enjoys a large following, with people from across the country visiting his darbar for solutions to personal issues.

Aniruddhacharya has been recognised for his social work. His ashram shelters abandoned elderly women, provides food to thousands daily, and maintains a gaushala with many cows. Despite these good deeds, his comment that women of 25 years “go around with many men” has drawn sharp criticism.

In Varanasi, women staged strong protests demanding punishment. They threw slippers at his photo, trampled it on the ground, and condemned his words as an attack on women’s dignity. Protesters said such remarks harm women’s honour and character.

Observers noted that while Aniruddhacharya’s popularity has given him influence, it also demands responsibility. Words spoken before large audiences should be chosen with care. The protests reflect a growing resolve among women not to tolerate offensive statements against them.

Though Indian culture continues to adapt with modern influences, attacks on women’s dignity remain unacceptable. Many hope that spiritual leaders and kathavachaks will exercise caution and maintain respect when addressing sensitive issues in the future.
