Mana Hyderabad ate all the biryani it could through Swiggy orders in the year 2024. As the Christmas holidays set in and with a new year on the horizon, Swiggy updated its customers with the stats for a happy meal in the year that will be gone in a week.
Hyderabadis love for biryani surpassed all the fancy food that the city now boasts of. Swiggy’s annual report proved the fact with orders coming in at all times of the day.
Of course the report covered all of India, but we are sure we in Hyderabad and two Telugu states did our bit to add up the numbers. In all, India ordered 83 million biryanis which meant 158 orders per minute and 2 orders per second.
Then there was the crispy dosa that took the second place. Who wouldn’t love a crispy hot Masada dosa or a plain dosa with karam podi and groundnut chutney.
No surprise as it’s light on the tummy and easy on the pocket. Little wonder that Indians and South Indians in particular polished off 23 million dosas.
As for midnight cravings, Hyderabadis like rest of India opted for zinger burgers, popcorn chicken combined with a sweet ending consisting of choco lava cakes, chocolate truffle, choco chips ice cream and the likes.
Then there was huge demand for momos and noodles through Swiggy’s Bolt offer that delivered in 10 minutes.
Swiggy also ran offers with IRCTC where Vijayawada, Nellore were on top with orders ranging from biryanis to south Indian thalis.
Overall there was much demand locally for South Indian food, snacks and desserts.
Dinner time was the Bahubali of all times when India munched in 215 million orders, 29% more than lunch orders.
Hyderabadis were also seen using Swiggy dine-in deals.
In all it was what Swiggy labeled as eatopia and the Hyderabadi and Telugu foodies made the most of the food choices on offer. Looking ahead to another food filled year!
