Chris Evans is reportedly returning to the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) in 2026’s Avengers: Doomsday. He’s best known for playing Captain America, but after the events of Avengers: Endgame in 2019, his character passed on the shield to Sam Wilson (Anthony Mackie).
Despite that, Evans is set to appear again, though it’s unclear which role he will take on.

In 2023, Evans made a surprising cameo in Deadpool & Wolverine, where he played Johnny Storm, also known as the Human Torch, a role he first portrayed in the Fantastic Four films back in the mid-2000s. Fans are now curious about how he’ll fit into Avengers: Doomsday.
Meanwhile, Robert Downey Jr. who is famous for playing Iron Man, is also returning to the MCU but not as Tony Stark. Instead, he’ll take on the role of Doctor Victor von Doom, the villain from the Fantastic Four comics.

Avengers: Doomsday, directed by Joe and Anthony Russo, will be part of a two-part storyline that leads into Avengers: Secret Wars in 2027. These films will conclude the MCU’s Multiverse Saga.
With so many big names returning, it’s likely we’ll see some familiar faces playing different versions of their characters or even entirely new roles.
