If item songs in Bollywood weren’t problematic enough a viral video from a school performance has made it even more so.
In a video shared from a school, small children are seen dancing to the latest “Aaj Ki Raat” song from Stree 2. The kids hardly seem to be even 10 years old and the lead dancer is wearing a similar suggestive dress that the star Tamannaah Bhatia was wearing, raising more flags for the school authorities.

There are many things that are wrong in the video. First of all the audience can be heard cheering and hooting at the explicit dance moves that are usually heard in theaters during these item songs. Moreover, in the video people can see that the dance was performed on the teacher’s day in front of a photo of Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan, which is even more outrageous.
These kinds of songs are specifically used in Bollywood to appeal to the male audience. It sexualizes and objectifies women and that is why people are offended as it is trying to do the same with the school kids. It is a choreographed and planned dance which raises questions over the parents and the school faculty that gave this green light.
