Wedding Turns Violent

In a shocking incident from Haridwar, what was supposed to be a joyful wedding turned into chaos when a violent clash broke out between the bride and groom’s families, leaving over 20 people injured and the wedding called off.

The incident took place on Monday night in Bahadrabad, where a wedding procession from Moradabad had arrived at a local hotel. As the traditional ribbon-cutting ceremony was underway after the groom’s procession (ghudchadi), a verbal altercation began between members of the two families. Eyewitnesses say the situation escalated after some members of the groom’s side allegedly made inappropriate remarks towards women from the bride’s side.

What started as a heated argument quickly spiraled into a full-blown brawl, with both sides physically attacking each other. Amid the chaos, the bride sat waiting on the stage for the groom, unaware that the event had completely derailed.

Reports say over 20 guests from both sides sustained injuries, with at least 12 from the bride’s family and 10 from the groom’s side needing medical attention.

The hotel venue also suffered significant damage as enraged guests allegedly vandalized property during the clash. Police from the Bahadrabad outpost rushed to the spot after being informed. By the time law enforcement arrived, many involved had fled, and the crowd began to disperse.

The bride’s brother later confirmed that the wedding did not take place. Station in-charge Mahipal Saini stated that the police will act upon receiving formal complaints from either side.

What began as a celebration ended in violence, raising questions about the lack of restraint and growing trend of aggression at social events.
