Former Pakistan batter Ahmed Shehzad has made strong remarks about India head coach Gautam Gambhir during the ongoing T20 World Cup 2026. His comments followed India’s heavy defeat to South Africa, which increased pressure on the team and management.
Ahmed Shehzad alleged that Gautam Gambhir has brought politics into the Indian dressing room. He referred to Gambhir’s tenure as a Member of Parliament between 2019 and 2024. According to him, that phase may have influenced Gambhir’s current mindset.
He also questioned certain team selection decisions during the tournament. In particular, he highlighted the choice of Washington Sundar over Axar Patel in a key match. The decision had already triggered debate among fans and cricket experts.
Ahmed Shehzad claimed such calls could disturb the team balance at a crucial stage. He further criticised the handling of players in the squad. He cited Kuldeep Yadav, who has featured in only one match so far.
He also mentioned the on field moment involving Kuldeep Yadav and captain Suryakumar Yadav after the Pakistan game. Ahmed Shehzad suggested there might be more to Kuldeep’s absence from the playing XI.
India now face a challenging situation in the T20 World Cup 2026. The loss to South Africa has intensified scrutiny on Gautam Gambhir and the team management. The upcoming match against Zimbabwe will be closely watched.
