With England being fined 10% of their match fees on top of being docked two points from their WTC tally, fans of test cricket have shown their protest towards the seemingly illogical rule of slow over rate in test cricket.
There is no doubt about the fact that the test match at Lord’s was the most iconic one that test cricket has seen in a while.
The uniqueness of the match can be felt just by realising that it was a nail-biter until the final session of the 5th day.
Many English fans took to social media to point out how India bowled just 83 overs on Day 1 and didn’t get penalised, while England got docked by 2 points for slow over-rate.
With the match turning out to be one of the best, many wonder whether the slow over-rate even matters if things get this entertaining in red-ball cricket.
It will be interesting to see if the ICC takes note of this to amend some of its rules to better suit the demands of the purest form of cricket.
