In the 66th match of IPL 2026, Gujarat Titans defeated Chennai Super Kings by 89 runs. This win has strengthened Gujarat Titans’ chances of finishing in the top two, while CSK have officially been eliminated from the playoff race.
After losing the toss, Gujarat Titans were asked to bat first and posted a strong total of 229/4. Sai Sudharsan scored an impressive 84 runs, while Shubman Gill added 64. Jos Buttler remained unbeaten on 57, ensuring a dominant finish.
Chasing 230, Chennai Super Kings had a disastrous start. Mohammed Siraj struck on the very first ball, dismissing Sanju Samson for a duck. He then removed Ruturaj Gaikwad for 16 and Urvil Patel without scoring, putting CSK under early pressure.
Kagiso Rabada provided excellent support from the other end, and CSK failed to recover. The team was bowled out for 140 in just 13.4 overs. Shivam Dube was the top scorer with 47 runs, but lacked support from the rest of the batting line-up.
This result reflects CSK’s overall poor campaign in IPL 2026. Ruturaj Gaikwad has struggled both as captain and batter, and the team has looked inconsistent throughout the season without a clear direction.
Over the past three seasons, Chennai Super Kings have failed to reach the playoffs. They finished outside the top four in 2024, 2025, and now 2026, marking a significant decline for one of the league’s most successful franchises.
Gujarat Titans, on the other hand, have shown strong form in all departments. With this commanding victory, they are now firmly in contention for a Qualifier 1 spot and look like serious title contenders this season.
