Abhishek Dropped for T20 Final? Harbhajan Reacts

Abhishek Sharma backed by Harbhajan Singh

Former India spinner Harbhajan Singh has advised the team management to continue backing Abhishek Sharma for the T20 World Cup 2026 final against New Zealand.

Abhishek Sharma has struggled with the bat during the tournament. In seven innings, the opener has scored only 89 runs at an average of 12.71.

His only notable performance came against Zimbabwe. In that match, he played an aggressive knock of 55 runs from 30 balls.

Apart from that innings, the left handed batter has not been able to make a strong impact. His form has raised questions about his place in the playing XI.

In the Semi final against England at the Wankhede Stadium on March 5, Abhishek began with two boundaries. However, he managed only nine runs from seven balls before getting out.

Despite the disappointing numbers, Harbhajan Singh believes the team should keep faith in the young opener. He feels this is not the time to drop a player.

Speaking on his YouTube channel, Harbhajan said players need support during difficult phases. According to him, backing a struggling player can help rebuild confidence.

He also explained that a batter regains rhythm only by playing matches. Sitting on the bench at such a stage could hurt Abhishek Sharma’s confidence further.

Harbhajan added that the Indian team has continued with the same playing XI since the Super 8 stage. He believes the management should stick with the same combination for the final as well.

The former spinner also expressed hope that Abhishek’s teammates will support him. He believes the youngster still has the ability to deliver a match winning performance.

With the T20 World Cup 2026 final approaching, attention will now shift to the team selection. Fans are eager to see whether India continues to trust Abhishek Sharma in the title clash against New Zealand.
