India’s 2026 T20 World Cup campaign has become a major topic on social media. After one disappointing match, several players faced criticism online. Fast bowler Mohammed Shami stepped forward and urged fans to support the team during the tournament.
India began the competition strongly with four consecutive wins in the first round. The team looked confident and balanced during this phase. However, their momentum slowed in the Super 8 stage with a heavy 76 run defeat against South Africa.
After that loss, several social media posts targeted captain Suryakumar Yadav. Young batters Abhishek Sharma and Tilak Varma were also criticised by some users online. The reaction created intense debate among cricket followers.
Despite the setback, India responded well in the following matches. The team secured victories against Zimbabwe and West Indies. The win over West Indies confirmed India’s place in the semi finals of the tournament.
Mohammed Shami spoke about the situation at the Rising Bharat Summit in New Delhi. He highlighted the importance of selecting the right playing XI in ICC tournaments. According to him, team balance often decides the outcome of big matches.
Shami also said India has been playing strong T20 cricket over the past few years. He believes the team still has the ability to deliver a top performance in this World Cup. The players remain confident about their chances.
Reacting to online memes and trolling, Shami said it is easy to criticise players from outside. However, he stressed that true fans should stand with the team during both success and difficult moments.
He also requested people to avoid making memes about players like Abhishek Sharma and Suryakumar Yadav. Shami expressed full confidence that these players will perform when the team needs them the most.
Former India captain Mithali Raj also supported Shami’s comments. She said many people do not fully understand the pressure players experience in major tournaments. High expectations often add extra stress to the players.
Mithali added that everyone wants India to win the tournament. She believes the team still has the capability to produce a strong performance in the upcoming match.
India have now reached the semi finals of the tournament. They will face England on 5 March in a high pressure knockout clash.
