The number 3 position of Cheteshwar Pujara has never quite been filled in the Indian test team ever since the legend was dropped.
While many names have come up and many chances have been given, no one has been selected as a final replacement for Pujara.
The management has tried to mould players like KL Rahul, Devdutt Padikkal, Shubman Gill, Sai Sudharsan and Karun Nair into the role but they all have failed to shine.
This is true especially for Karun Nair and Sai Sudharsan. Karun Nair, despite being given many chances after his comeback, has not managed to break even the 40-run mark, making the highest score of just 31 against England.
While many believe that he should be dropped to this extent, some still think that Karun and Sai should be given the unquestioned backing of the management so that they can play freely and score runs without any worry.
The next test match at Lord’s will turn out to be a do-or-die situation for Karun, as he will have to prove himself or risk being out of the Indian team yet again, this time for good.
With the 3rd test scheduled to start from 10th July, it will be interesting to see if Karun can finally channel his inner talent to show the cricketing world his capabilities.
