Former India batter Sanjay Manjrekar is surprised by how well the current IPL generation has adapted to Test cricket.
Sanjay Manjrekar believes the switch from T20 cricket to Tests is not easy, especially for batters, but the current generation has managed to make the change quickly.
Sanjay Manjrekar compared the switch to pop singers being asked to perform classical ragas.
Modern pop singers, if they are asked to do classical singing, ragas, then it will be very difficult.
But these people are doing that. It is a mystery to me that the generation of IPL, the generation of T20, how do they play such good Test cricket? Manjrekar said.
He said the difference is even bigger when it comes to batting. There is a lot of difference between T20 batting and Test batting, he added.
The current Indian team has several players who have grown up playing IPL and T20 cricket.
Despite that, they have shown the ability to change their approach in Tests, where defence, patience and concentration are important.
The biggest challenge is switching between formats without carrying the T20 approach into red ball cricket.
Manjrekar’s comments highlight how the current generation has managed to handle that change better than expected.
