Can this win mark a fresh start for Team India? After seven matches without a win, India finally returned to winning ways by beating Zimbabwe by seven wickets in the first T20I.
The win also gave Shreyas Iyer his first T20I win as India’s captain and a 1-0 lead in the three match series.
Zimbabwe managed only 125/5 in 20 overs after a disciplined bowling performance from India.
Wesley Madhevere scored 39, while Ryan Burl made 36. Mayank Yadav and Prince Yadav took two wickets each, while Ravi Bishnoi and Shivam Dube picked up one wicket each.
Chasing 126, India lost Abhishek Sharma early, but 15 year old Vaibhav Suryavanshi played an attacking innings.
The young opener scored 50 off 19 balls and reached his half century in just 18 deliveries. Ishan Kishan also contributed 35 runs as India completed the chase in only 13.2 overs.
Vaibhav also created history by becoming the youngest player to score a T20I fifty at the age of 15 years and 118 days, breaking the previous record held by Gibraltar’s Lewis Bruce.
India have finally ended their seven match wait for a T20I win, but can this victory help Shreyas Iyer and his team build momentum for the rest of the series?
