The Asia Cup 2025 final turned out to be another proud moment for Indian cricket as the team once again stamped its dominance over arch-rivals Pakistan. The big match was played in Dubai on Sunday, and India registered a thrilling 5-wicket victory to lift its ninth Asia Cup title. While the win itself was memorable, the hero of the night was young Telugu batter Tilak Varma, who played a sensational innings under immense pressure.
This marks India’s ninth Asia Cup triumph, further cementing their supremacy in the tournament’s history.
Chasing 147, India found themselves in early trouble as Abhishek Sharma (5), Suryakumar Yadav (1), and Shubman Gill (12) fell cheaply, leaving the scoreboard at a precarious 20/3. Just when the chase looked shaky, young Telugu batsman Tilak Varma rose to the occasion with a match-winning knock. He remained unbeaten on 69 off 53 balls, striking 3 fours and 4 sixes, and was ably supported by Sanju Samson, who scored 24 in a steady 57-run stand. Later, Shivam Dube’s 33 off 22 balls provided the momentum India needed, before Rinku Singh sealed the win with a boundary in the 20th over.
Earlier, Pakistan chose to bat first and got off to a steady start. Sahibzada Farhan anchored the innings with a fighting 57, while Fakhar Zaman contributed 46. However, India’s spinners turned the game around with a dominant show. Kuldeep Yadav starred with figures of 4/30, while Varun Chakravarthy (2/30), Axar Patel (2/26), and Jasprit Bumrah (2/25) tightened the screws. Pakistan’s middle and lower order collapsed, and the team was bowled out for just 146 in 19.1 overs.
The final overs saw Tilak Varma’s composure shine through as he brought up a half-century in 41 balls and kept the chase under control. With Dube’s aggression ensuring the required run rate never dipped, India crossed the finish line at 150/5 in 19.4 overs.
This victory carries special weight as India defeated Pakistan three times in the same tournament, leaving no doubt about their supremacy. The final will be remembered for Kuldeep Yadav’s magical spell with the ball and Tilak Varma’s fearless match-winning innings, two standout performances that powered India to yet another historic Asia Cup triumph.
This win not only gave India yet another Asia Cup trophy but also highlighted the rise of young talents like Tilak Varma, who proved he could deliver on the biggest stage. It was a night of celebration for Indian cricket and its passionate fans.
