Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma’s chances of playing in the 2027 ODI World Cup remain a big talking point.
Both players recently scored centuries against the West Indies, but questions about their age and future in the format continue.
BCCI president Mithun Manhas has now made his position clear on what should decide their selection.
Mithun Manhas said age should not be the main factor when selecting players for the World Cup. According to him, fitness and performance should matter most, especially when a player is still contributing to wins for India.
His comments suggest that Kohli and Rohit will have to keep delivering if they want to be part of the squad.
The BCCI chief also spoke about how the experience of senior players could help Shubman Gill, who leads India in ODIs.
Mithun Manhas believes having experienced names such as Kohli, Rohit and Hardik Pandya in the team can support Gill, while Jasprit Bumrah could also take responsibility as a bowling leader.
For now, Mithun Manhas has not guaranteed a place for either Kohli or Rohit in the 2027 World Cup squad. His message is that selection should depend on fitness and performance, leaving both veterans with a clear target as they continue their ODI careers.
