Pongal Twist: Big Trouble Ahead for Vijay’s Jana Nayagan

Jana Nayagan and Parasakthi Pongal clash

Since Jana Nayagan is expected to be the final film of Vijay as an actor, many assumed it would enjoy a solo release. Expectations were high for a strong box office run and a memorable farewell for the star.

The Jana Nayagan team was the first to lock the Pongal release slot, announcing months ago that the film would arrive on January 9th. Later, Sivakarthikeyan’s Parasakthi team confirmed a January 14th release date.

Trade circles initially felt Jana Nayagan would benefit from a five day solo run. With its earlier release, the film was expected to post strong opening weekend numbers. Festival clashes between major films are also common in Kollywood.

However, strong speculation now suggests the Parasakthi team may advance its release to January 10th. The reported reason is the arrival of three Telugu films on January 14th, which could impact overseas screen availability. An official announcement is expected soon.

If Parasakthi releases on January 10th, screen distribution is likely to be almost equal between both films. This could significantly affect the theatrical run and collections of Jana Nayagan, despite its earlier release advantage.

Following this buzz, Vijay fans have expressed anger on social media. Many feel that Jana Nayagan, being Vijay’s final film, deserves a clear solo release without competition during Pongal.

As of now, there is no official confirmation regarding the change in Parasakthi’s release date. It remains to be seen whether it advances to January 10th or sticks to the originally announced January 14th slot.
