Vijay’s final film Jana Nayagan, directed by H Vinoth, was initially planned for a worldwide release on January 9. However, delays in receiving the censorship certificate forced the makers to postpone the film. There is still no official confirmation on a new release date.
The situation became more serious when Jana Nayagan was leaked online recently. The incident shocked the Kollywood industry and created pressure on the makers. Distributors have been urging KVN Productions to release the film soon despite pending certification.
Recent reports suggest that the censorship process is nearing completion. The makers are expected to receive the certificate within a week. Based on this, KVN Productions is considering a release in the first or second week of May.
Meanwhile, Dhanush’s Kara is scheduled to release on April 30, while Suriya’s Karuppu is set for May 14. Trade experts believe Jana Nayagan should choose a date that avoids direct competition with these films to ensure better box office performance.
If Jana Nayagan opts for a May 14 release, it could clash with Karuppu. Industry observers feel this may impact collections for both films. They suggest that the makers should avoid this clash, especially since Karuppu has already faced multiple delays.
KVN Productions is also preparing for the release of Yash’s Toxic on June 4. Managing two big releases within a short gap may create challenges. This limits the available options for scheduling Jana Nayagan’s release effectively.
As of now, there is no official update on the final release date. It remains to be seen when Jana Nayagan will arrive in theatres and whether it will affect the performance of Suriya’s Karuppu at the box office.
