While the first half of 2024 in Kollywood disappointed with only 3-4 hit movies till June, the second half of 2024 in Kollywood is a rampage as different genres of movies got released and became blockbusters.

According to trade experts, in the first half of 2024 in Tamilnadu, the Malayalam movie Manjummel Boys and Vijay’s Ghilli Re-release were the only two movies that brought more audiences to theatres and ended up as the savior of Tamilnadu Theatres in the first half of 2024 after multiple disasters.

Then the redemption of Kollywood started with Vijay Sethupathi’s Maharaja, which was released on June 14th and ended up as an ultra-blockbuster movie and has collected more than 100 crores worldwide.

Then medium-budget movies such as Soori’s Garudan, Mari Selvaraj’s Vaazhai, Arulnidhi’s Demonte Colony-2, Lubber Pandhu, Meiyazhagan, and Black Movie were released back to back and became a huge success and brought more audiences to theatres.

Also, biggies such as Dhanush’s Raayan, Vijay’s The Greatest Of All Time, and Rajinikanth’s Vettaiyan were released. All these three movies acquired mixed responses from audiences and also ended up with average box office collections in their theatrical run.

Also, a few weeks ago, Sivakarthikeyan’s Amaran movie was released and is still running in theatres. Amaran was an ultra-blockbuster success and has acquired more than 250 crore gross worldwide as of now. Also, as per reports, Amaran is said to be the biggest Diwali hit post-covid.

Still, two months were left before the end of 2024; Kanguva is going to be released tomorrow, and some medium-budget movies are lined up for release in the coming weeks. Let us see whether Kanguva and also some medium-budget movies are becoming blockbusters.
