Dhanush‘s spy action thriller film OM directed by Rajkumar Periyasamy was initially scheduled for a worldwide theatrical release on October 16th as a Dasara special. However, since the makers of Rajinikanth’s most anticipated sequel Jailer 2, are also targeting the same release slot, it is now creating huge trouble for OM.
Following the update on Jailer 2’s arrival for Dasara, the makers of Dhanush’s OM are now planning to release the film for Diwali. But two major factors are forcing the OM team to stick to the October 16th release date and face a suicidal clash with Jailer 2.
One factor is that according to sources, Netflix, which acquired the streaming rights of OM, is not willing to postpone the film to Diwali and is demanding that the team stick to the planned release date, as they do not want their planned streaming schedule to be affected.
The other factor is that the most anticipated pan-Indian film, Ramayana, is releasing for Diwali. So, if OM postpones its release to Diwali, it would not be able to acquire a good screen count and the box office collection would be affected.
On the other hand, since Dhanush is a very big admirer of Rajinikanth, he does not want to clash with Jailer 2 and has asked the makers to postpone the release to Diwali.
Consequently, reports indicate that the makers of OM are planning to meet with Netflix officials, explain the situation and request approval for a Diwali release. Therefore, the release of OM is now in Netflix’s hands and they will decide when the film will be released in theaters.
Amidst all these release date confusions, the first single of OM, composed by Sai Abhyankkar and titled Alaakaa Loova is going to be released on July 28th as a Dhanush birthday special. Since it is a dance number, Dhanush’s fans are eagerly awaiting it with high expectations.
Ultimately, all of these are just social media speculations and there is still no official update on the postponement of OM’s release. Hence, it remains to be seen whether OM will be postponed to Diwali or will face a clash with Jailer 2.
