The Malayalam film Patriot, directed by Mahesh Narayanan, has been postponed from its original release date. The film marks the reunion of Mohanlal and Mammootty after 18 years. This update has disappointed fans who were eagerly waiting for the big release.
Earlier, Patriot was scheduled for a worldwide theatrical release on April 23rd. The makers have now officially shifted it to May 1st. They also confirmed that the trailer will release on April 4th with a grand launch event and special screenings.
Following the announcement, social media discussions have pointed to possible reasons behind the delay. Some trackers believe the Tamil Nadu election played a key role. This has affected the film’s planned release strategy across important regions.
Malayalam films usually perform well in Gulf and Tamil Nadu markets. However, reports suggest the Gulf market is currently affected by the ongoing war in the Middle East. This may have influenced the decision to shift the release date.
At the same time, the Tamil Nadu market is expected to be occupied during the election period. Releasing Patriot on April 23rd could have limited its reach. Moving to May 1st is seen as an attempt to maximise audience turnout.
However, some critics believe the new release date may not be ideal. Dhanush’s Kara is scheduled to release on April 30th, while Raja Shivaji will arrive on May 1st. This creates competition for a film positioned as a pan Indian project.
Many feel Patriot would have benefited from a solo release window. The clash could impact its performance in Tamil Nadu and North Indian markets. These concerns have led to mixed reactions from trade circles and audiences.
Despite the debate, expectations from Patriot remain high. The reunion of Mohanlal and Mammootty has created strong anticipation. It remains to be seen whether the film meets expectations and achieves success after its release on May 1st.
