Prithviraj’s US Box Office Nightmare: Another Flop

Prithviraj’s Khalifa Disaster Puts Huge Pressure on Daayra

Prithviraj Sukumaran is going through a rough phase at the box office, and his latest release Khalifa has made the situation more worrying. The Malayalam smuggling action drama has failed to make an impact in the USA and has turned out to be a BIG disaster.

According to the trade figures, Khalifa has collected around Rs. 14.79 crore gross in India and Rs. 16.25 crore overseas, taking its reported worldwide gross to approximately Rs. 31 crores. The film opened with decent numbers, but its momentum weakened quickly due to extremely negative word of mouth.

What makes the situation more concerning is that Khalifa comes after a series of flops for Prithviraj. The box office performance of his last 3-4 films has been disastrous.

The big hope now is Daayra. Directed by acclaimed filmmaker Meghna Gulzar, the upcoming Hindi film stars Prithviraj alongside Kareena Kapoor. The combination gives the project a strong platform, particularly because Kareena has strong box office clout in both India and overseas markets. The film is currently slated for September 18, 2026.

After the disappointment of Khalifa, Daayra could be one last chance for Prithviraj to bounce back and regain momentum at the box office before SS Rajamouli’s global-trotting film Varanasi arrives next year.
