Khalifa: Prithviraj Sukumaran’s 3rd Disaster in a Row?

Prithviraj Sukumaran in Khalifa action scene

Prithviraj’s anticipated Khalifa directed by Vysakh was finally released in theatres today and is receiving below average responses from audiences and critics.

Since Prithviraj‘s last two films, Vilayath Buddha and I Nobody, ended up as terrible disappointments, his fans believed that at least Khalifa would emerge as a successful venture and bring some relief.

However, unfortunately, it seems like Khalifa has also ended up as a terrible disappointment. Many viewers, after watching the film are suggesting that the story of Khalifa is the major drawback, as they claim it is outdated and offers nothing new.

They note that despite the stylish looks of Prithviraj, Jakes Bejoy’s music and some interesting action blocks, Khalifa is just an average, mediocre attempt. They feel that even though director Vysakh tried his best to present an engaging film with a weak script, the poor screenplay makes most of the sequences predictable and the antagonist character played by Neil Nitin Mukesh is also very weak.

Hence, overall, many viewers claim that Khalifa is one of the biggest disappointments in recent times and even Mohanlal’s cameo does not create any impact.

Already, because of very poor promotions, Khalifa faced underwhelming pre-release bookings. In this situation, due to the disappointing word of mouth from the audience, the film is now struggling to sustain itself at the box office.

Earlier, for the Onam weekend, along with Khalifa, Nivin Pauly’s Bethlehem Kudumba Unit and Dulquer Salmaan’s I’m Game were scheduled for release. But due to certain circumstances, I’m Game opted out of the race, leaving a neck and neck clash between Khalifa and Bethlehem Kudumba Unit.

Now, due to the negative responses to Khalifa, Bethlehem Kudumba Unit, which is releasing tomorrow, has a solid advantage. Bethlehem Kudumba Unit already has decent hype among the audience, as actress Mamitha Baiju and the director Girish A D reunited for this film after the massive success of Premalu.

Ultimately, it remains to be seen how Khalifa will perform at the box office and whether Khalifa’s negative responses will help Bethlehem Kudumba Unit emerge as the Onam winner in the coming days.
