After the disaster of Kanguva, Suriya is now awaiting the release of his most anticipated movie, Retro, directed by Karthik Subbaraj, which is planned to release on May 1.
The OTT streaming rights for Retro were acquired by Netflix, as officially announced during their Kollywood lineup event, #NetflixPandigai, on Pongal.
According to reports, Netflix has secured the OTT rights for Retro in five languages—Tamil, Telugu, Kannada, Hindi, and Malayalam—for a whopping 80 crores, marking the highest-ever OTT deal in Suriya’s career.
Reports suggest that Retro is set to be streamed on Netflix within a 4-week OTT window which means it should start streaming by the end of May. This is not good news to let the audience know about the OTT release date which might keep them away from visiting theaters to watch Retro.
Retro is among the most anticipated movies in Netflix’s Kollywood lineup.
Even after Kanguva’s epic failure, Netflix’s significant investment in Suriya’s Retro is quite surprising, say trade analysts.
Day by day, expectations for Retro are increasing among Kollywood audiences. Let’s see if Retro meets these expectations and helps Suriya make a solid comeback.
