Recent rumors about a collaboration between superstar Rajinikanth and acclaimed director Mani Ratnam have created a buzz in Kollywood. Reports suggested that the two were set to reunite after 33 years for a massive project with a budget of ₹200 crores.
However, these speculations were put to rest by actress Suhasini, Mani Ratnam’s wife. She clarified that there were no discussions or plans for such a film.
Suhasini made it clear that neither Mani Ratnam nor Rajinikanth was involved in any such talks. This has raised questions about where the rumors originated and why they spread.
However, there are also some unconfirmed reports that Rajini is terribly upset with the result of his latest film Vettaiyan. The film turned out to be neither like a Rajinikanth hardcore masala film nor Gnanavel’s serious film like Jai Bhim.
He expected Vettaiyan to be another 500 crore film after Jailer but the film is struggling to even cross 250 crores at the worldwide box office.
Rajinikanth now doesn’t want to take any risk with a senior director like Mani Ratnam who doesn’t understand the pulse of today’s young testosterone-driven audience. He is looking to collaborate with younger directors who can showcase him as the star of the masses he is.
At the moment, Mani Ratnam is busy working with Kamal Haasan on their upcoming film Thug Lifes. Meanwhile, Rajinikanth is collaborating with Lokesh Kanagaraj for a film titled Coolie.
