In an attempt to enhance the usability of UPI for its users, ICICI Bank has made an announcement for its international customers.
Non-resident Indians (NRI) with an account in the ICICI Bank, who want to make payments via UPI can do so with their international mobile numbers. Unlike before, they do not need a sim card registered to India. Their international mobile number linked with their bank account will be available for the payments in India.
UPI has turned out to be revolutionary for the Indian banking sector. It has become the most used digital payment method which has become useful for both the consumers and the businesses.
This move will not only strengthen UPI’s position as a method of digital payment among those who don’t reside in the country permanently but also act as a relief for NRI’s visiting their motherland on a frequent basis.
