ChatGPT Is Far From Replacing Script Writers

ChatGPT Script WritersOne fear that has been haunting writers for a long time is that one day AI will replace them. Even one of the main agendas of the Hollywood strike is the overuse of AI. But writers can be assured that the day is further away than we can anticipate. AI still struggles when it comes to writing scripts and generating original ideas.

A couple of months ago, Charlie Brooker, the maker of Black Mirror, also made an attempt to have AI write one episode, but in his own language, it was ‘shit’.

Even in the Indian scenario, a few attempts were made and without any shock, no improvements were noticed. Shekhar Kapur, recently, mentioned that he made an attempt to write a script for Masoom 2. Now, though the director was amused by the understanding of the film and its theme, he noted (probably with an inner smile) that he was still better than AI creatively.

One of the greatest, James Cameron, also talked about how AI-written scripts are nothing but ‘word salad’ and lack emotion. Again, this solidifies the case for humans.

And if we are talking about human-written shows, we can’t really miss talking about Breaking Bad. Their stars recently made remarks about AI writing the shows, and it is quite noteworthy.

Cranston even pointed out that in the new contracts, there will be clauses such as actors and writers have to be human. He also brutally criticized the idea of dehumanizing the workforce and normalizing AI by the studios.

Now, though for minute and smaller tasks, AI is being integrated, and stopping it looks like a hard task. When it comes to the creative process, it is the human mind that sits at the top, and with a comfortable margin.

Even if you look at the case of Secret Wars, the AI-intro scenes gathered more criticism than appreciation, and let’s be honest, they were ‘shit’. This backlash is just a sign of what’s coming in the future if they actually use AI in the creative process.
