Since ChatGPT entered the common market, it has sparked the age-old question: will we be replaced? At a very preliminary level, the answer was yes. However, a recent study by the ILO (International Labour Organization) has shed light on the issue.

The ILO recently stated that Generative Artificial Intelligence (AI) is more likely to enhance job opportunities by automating certain tasks rather than completely replacing entire roles. In simple terms, AI won’t replace your job, but people with knowledge of AI certainly have an advantage.
Besides the art industry, clerical jobs have been affected by this sudden change. A significant percentage of their tasks can be executed by basic prompts, but when it comes to managerial duties, the percentage decreases.
In wealthier nations, about 5.5% of jobs could potentially be affected by automation, while in less affluent countries, only around 0.4% of jobs face this risk.
The study highlights a worrying trend: over twice as many women’s jobs could be automated. This is mainly due to women being overrepresented in clerical positions, particularly in wealthier nations.
Now, amid the concern, the statistics don’t really provide much comfort for people. From copywriting to even music, AI is encroaching into every possible field, but boycotting technology is somewhat impossible in the modern context.
