India is going to be the world’s leader in artificial intelligence (AI) development because of its vibrant startup ecosystem and its growing developer community on GitHub, the largest online platform for hosting and collaborating on software projects.
As per Microsoft Chairman and CEO Satya Nadella who spoke to over 1,100 developers and technology leaders at the Microsoft AI Tour in Bengaluru on Thursday, India will become the largest developer base on GitHub by 2027. There are over 13 million developers from India on GitHub, second only to the US with over 20 million.
Nadella appreciated the Indian developers for being the AI innovation leaders worldwide as India has the second-highest number of generative AI projects on GitHub after the US. He mentioned that the next-generation AI will change how and what developers build everywhere, including India.
He also emphasized AI’s economic and social benefits to India as the country could see up to 10% of its GDP growth from AI-related outputs. He underlined the importance of democratizing AI skills and tools access and launched the Code Without Barriers program to help 75,000 women developers in India by 2024.
India, with its vast talent, and entrepreneurial and innovative mindset, is poised to be the AI powerhouse of the world. As Nadella mentioned, it is great to see how the Indian developer community is using our technology and tools to build the future for India and the world.
