If AI wasn’t bothering enough people, Microsoft now took the responsibility to finish the rest. Who is in the crosshairs, you ask? It’s the voice actors.
Now, the usage of AI is already threatening people from several industries, including the writers and actors not only in the entertainment industry but also in the video game industry. Even a recent news article stated that the video game industry might go on strike.
Microsoft is now trying to implement AI services in terms of generating dialogues, and that puts the future of voice acting under question.
Microsoft teams up with Inworld AI (announced on November 6th) to create an AI toolset for its studios, aimed at enhancing dialogue, story, and quest design. This toolset will assist in generating scripts, dialogue trees, and character interactions, potentially impacting the roles of writers and voice actors. This development has sparked concerns among some voice actors.
More and more voice actors are expressing their concerns regarding this step, as it has all the potential to obliterate the future of the industry. Now, even if it doesn’t apply to the main characters, in terms of NPCs, companies will always opt for the cheaper alternative, AI.
And as that is one of the basic stepping stones for most budding artists, they won’t be able to showcase their talents. The industry is competitive enough, and now the addition of AI will make it somewhat impossible for the new talents.
