Self Repairing Road! India’s Solution to Damage

Self Repairing Road

Not only Deadpool and Wolverine but public roads can heal themselves too. Potholes are a huge problem for the Indian passengers. The heavy flow of traffic and poor quality of roads have made “Potholes” a hazardous reality. But recently, the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) has proposed an innovative solution to this problem. The use of materials with self-healing properties can extend the longevity of the roads and make potholes a thing of the past, with the use of asphalt blend, steel fibers, and bitumen.

When a road goes through extreme and consistent pressure, the binding strength gets weaker and it starts to crack. But with this new technology whenever a gap forms the bitumen will go through a process of expansion and fill it up.

The inclusion of tiny steel wool into bitumen strengthens it and the adhesive component of asphalt works as the binding factor. It’s a very effective way to avoid the very creation of potholes. The bitumen can easily reattach the inner ingredients of the road and that can avoid any potential pothole formation.

The issue of potholes and poor road maintenance has existed since roads. And it puts millions of lives in danger daily as the traffic flow in India is extremely dense. This new technology if implemented properly would save a lot of lives and avoid a lot of danger for millions of commuters.
