Famous for being the most approachable music streaming platform and notorious for its ‘Let’s push the premium down the throats of the users,’ it’s the tale of Spotify. Now, the experience was not good anyway, as they tried to make it as bad as it can get.
Now, the free service by Spotify is ad-supported, and you can expect it. But the frequency of advertisements is enough to convince you to opt for the premium, and now, they are adding other tools to annoy you to death unless you take the premium service.
Annoying the users with excessive ads is one thing, but they are adapting a new strategy. Spotify is now making non-paying users be deprived of certain basic features such as repeat and the ability to skip forward or backward.
Now, making these basic features premium will not only worsen the experience for existing users in the ad-supported tier, but it will also reduce the number of new users, and that is a fact.
With the recent quarterly reports, Spotify did become profitable, and the company reports a massive hike in terms of subscriber base. Now, Spotify also made a price hike in terms of their plans, though that didn’t affect Indian users.
But with such strategies to push premium, it won’t leave any good impression for the streaming service. Paid users are destined to get a better and undisturbed experience, but when it comes to trading basic features for the premium, it’s too excessive.
