An IndiGo passenger flying from Hyderabad to Delhi on June 17 shared a chilling mid-air experience that left over 200 people tense and counting minutes to landing.
Ashwani Kumar (@BorntobeAshwani) took to Twitter to recount what he described as the most turbulent flight of his life. About 28 minutes before reaching Delhi, the pilot announced that the city was under heavy rain, thunderstorms, and poor visibility.
Over 30 planes were already in a holding pattern above the capital, waiting for the weather to improve. Then came the most alarming detail. The pilot said the aircraft had only 30 minutes of fuel left. If conditions didn’t improve in time, a diversion might be necessary.
With fears amplified by the recent #AhmedabadFlightCrash, panic set in among many passengers. Ashwani tried to calm those around him by pointing out that 30 minutes of reserve fuel is standard in aviation and allows for safe redirection to nearby airports.
Still, the atmosphere inside the plane was far from calm. Fortunately, the flight landed safely at Delhi within those 28 minutes.
Ashwani compared the experience to the Ajay Devgn film Runway 34, calling it a “real Runway 34 experience.” He praised the pilot’s handling of the situation but noted that the cabin crew failed to offer the kind of calm and reassurance passengers desperately needed.
He even suggested Devgn re-release the film, as it captures the complexity and stress of flying under such conditions.
