A United Airlines Boeing flying from Narita to Cebu had to make an emergency landing at Kansai Airport. The incident occurred after a fire alarm went off in the rear cargo hold about 200 km off Wakayama Prefecture.

The plane carried around 140 passengers and crew. It landed safely and was immediately evacuated using escape chutes. The evacuation was completed in about 20 minutes.

Passengers Injured During Panic

Five passengers suffered minor injuries during the evacuation. Many passengers reported panic at the time, while some praised the airline’s quick and efficient response.

Investigation Underway

The Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism found no signs of fire in initial checks. The Japan Transport Safety Board (JTSB) has called it a “serious incident” and sent investigators to examine the cause.

Operations Resumed at Kansai

Runway A at Kansai Airport was temporarily closed but reopened after several hours. Normal operations resumed the following day. The incident highlights the importance of aircraft safety systems and effective evacuation protocols.
