A recent SpiceJet flight from Delhi to Mumbai witnessed chaos onboard when two passengers, allegedly upset over the air-conditioning, tried to enter the cockpit while the aircraft was taxiing.
The incident took place on flight SG 9282, which was scheduled to depart at 12.30 pm on July 14, 2025. The flight eventually took off nearly seven hours later at 7.21 pm and landed in Mumbai at 9.05 pm.
Video footage from the plane has gone viral, showing fellow passengers pleading with the troublemakers to sit down. One of the unruly passengers can be heard saying, “AC chala de, hum baith jayenge,” implying they would comply if the air-conditioning was turned on. Other fliers demanded the crew call security and insisted that such behavior was illegal.
SpiceJet issued a statement confirming that the two individuals attempted to forcefully approach the cockpit despite repeated warnings from the cabin crew, fellow passengers, and the Captain.
For the safety of everyone on board, the Captain decided to return the aircraft to the bay. The disruptive passengers were offloaded and handed over to CISF personnel.
Incidents involving unruly passengers have become an increasing concern for airlines. In recent years, there have been multiple reports of disruptive and inappropriate behavior by Indian passengers, including cases involving intoxication and harassment. These incidents not only pose safety threats but also lead to massive delays and stress for airline staff and other passengers.
To address the growing problem, the Directorate General of Civil Aviation has implemented stricter regulations aimed at curbing such misconduct and ensuring safer skies for all travelers.
