The BRS has finalised Maganti Sunitha, wife of the late Maganti Gopinath, as its candidate for the upcoming Jubilee Hills by-election. The election is expected to be held in late October or the first week of November.
Several leaders, including PJR’s son Vishnuvardhan Reddy, ex-minister Puvvada Ajay, and Ravula Sridhar Reddy, were in the race for the ticket. Despite high demand, the BRS is said to have conducted a pre-poll survey in the constituency to gauge public opinion on the ideal candidate.
Based on the survey results, the party filtered responses and chose Maganti Sunitha. The decision was made during a key meeting at Telangana Bhavan on Wednesday, which was attended by party chief KCR.
KCR noted that there is scope for a sympathy vote in favour of Sunitha and urged the party to work towards her victory. He called this the best tribute to late Maganti Gopinath.
KCR stated that the party holds strong support in the constituency but admitted there are a few weak pockets. He directed leaders and workers to unite, clean up voter lists, and ensure all missing voters are added.
He added that winning Jubilee Hills would signal a return to power and declared that the party’s jaithrayatra must start with this seat. He criticised the Congress, claiming the party believes it can win the seat by offering ₹5000 per vote.
Calling this overconfidence, KCR said people are ready to reject the party that cheated them. He encouraged workers to expose Congress wrongdoings and asserted that Sunitha’s win should mark a new awakening for BRS.
He also warned against the “dictatorial rule” of Congress and urged voters to reject it. Speaking at the same meeting, Maganti Sunitha requested full support from party leaders and the cadre to ensure her victory.
