Ryan Wesley Routh was arrested last month for attempting to kill former US president Donald Trump. Despite being caught with firearms, the man pleaded not guilty to federal charges on Monday.

Routh was found camping outside Trump’s golf course in Florida with a rifle. Agents fired shots in Routh’s direction, which made him run away but he was later arrested in a nearby county.

He faces five serious charges, including attempted assassination, making this the second attempt on Trump’s life since July. The court documents further reveal his past criminal records of felony and illegal possession of firearms.

The prosecutors found more incriminating evidence against Routh. Allegedly he had written about his plan months before, calling it a “failed assassination attempt” and offering $150,000 to someone to “finish the job.”

The case is being handled by US District Judge Aileen Cannon, who was appointed by the Republican candidate himself and has dealt with his classified documents case before. Routh’s lawyers did not comment after the short hearing.

This incident follows a July attack when Trump was shot in the ear at a campaign rally in Pennsylvania, raising concerns about his safety. That case is still under investigation by the Federal agencies.
