California Indian Couple

A California couple of Indian origin fell victim to a harrowing robbery just outside their Orange County home. Dr. Vijay Wali and Dr. Jyotika Wali were attacked by two men who had trailed them for 16 miles from a jewelry store, according to the family.

The incident, partially captured on surveillance footage, unfolded as the couple arrived home. Vijay, unloading the trunk, was assaulted by one attacker while Jyotika, about to enter the house, was targeted by another. Their daughter, Dr. Priyanka Wali, recounted that the assailants were highly organized, showing evidence of prior experience.

The robbers made a quick escape in two cars, identified as a gray or silver Nissan Altima and a black Honda Odyssey, driven by accomplices. The stolen items included precious ancestral jewelry, notably a hexagonal jewel worn by Kashmiri Hindu brides. Despite the trauma, both victims resumed work over the weekend.

The criminals’ meticulous stalking was revealed through security footage at the jewelry store and Jyotika Wali’s office. Authorities are investigating the incident as a “home invasion robbery,” but details remain undisclosed to safeguard the ongoing investigation.

The family expressed deep emotional distress, questioning the sense of safety in their community. The impact of the theft extends beyond material loss, with the victims grappling with profound emotional trauma from the ordeal.
