Even a simple license renewal is turning into a headache for H1B visa holders in America.
A social media user recently shared their experience of how an attempt at renewing their driver’s license was stalled at the DMV (Department of Motor Vehicles) because USCIS (US Citizenship and Immigration Services) couldn’t verify their immigration status.
This happened despite having all the documents present—-passport, vehicle registration, EAD, everything. Eventually, the DMV manager had to step in and trigger a SAVE (Systematic Alien Verification for Entitlements) check.
Several other H1B workers claim that they have also encountered such nightmares. One said they were bizarrely asked to retake a driving test, despite years of holding a valid license.
Another was caught in a loop between DMV and SAVE for weeks. His license expired while both agencies kept blaming each other.
For Indian professionals in the U.S., every mundane government service is becoming a test of patience. H1B holders are expected to follow all the rules, but the system doesn’t always play fair in return.
