H-1B Struggles

For many Indians, the American Dream seems to be dying every day and it’s taking a heavy toll on their mental health. Amongst uncertainties over H-1B visas, the community openly shared their experiences on social media.

While Indian-origin businessmen might rejoice at Trump’s return, techies and other employees are scared of losing their jobs. The Indian diaspora took to Reddit and expressed these fears under a thread.

People shared how they avoid settling in one place since there is no guarantee of their future working in US firms. Losing a job means finding another within 60 days or they will be forced to leave the country.

Many users claim they are going through anxiety and depression but they don’t seek help as they think it would risk their Green Card chances.

The experiences get even more tragic. One member of the community said he feels trapped in the country as he can’t even attend funerals back home fearing he might not be allowed to return.




Despite being the second largest immigrant group in the US, the Indian diaspora faces constant fear in a system that exploits their skills but offers no security. As things get worse, all they have in these trying times are each other’s support.
