Vague US Visa Notice: H-1b Called for Interview, No Date

H-1B applicant reviews Chennai interview notice

An H-1B applicant has expressed confusion after receiving a 221(g) white slip from the US Consulate. The issue arose after a notice from the US Consulate in Chennai reportedly asked the applicant to attend an in-person interview. However, the communication did not include a specific interview date.

According to the applicant, their passport was returned along with instructions to visit the US Consulate General in Chennai. The white slip reportedly stated that applicants could appear on any working Monday, Tuesday, or Friday between 9:00 AM and 11:00 AM. The absence of a fixed interview date has created uncertainty about the process.

The applicant also checked the USVisaScheduling portal for further guidance. However, the portal continued to display the previous Dropbox appointment. They claimed there was no option available to schedule a new interview slot, which added to their concerns.

The situation became more confusing after the applicant found differing accounts from others who had faced similar circumstances. Some individuals reportedly said applicants could directly visit the Chennai consulate with the 221(g) slip and passport during the specified hours. Others advised contacting the consulate before making travel arrangements.

The Indian professional said they are planning to travel to Chennai next week and want clarity before proceeding. The lack of clear instructions has made it difficult to determine the correct course of action. Conflicting information from the notice and the USCIS portal has further increased uncertainty around the trip.
