98 Indians died of natural causes during this year’s Hajj pilgrimage, with a total death toll of 1,081 from 10 different countries.
The duration of the Hajj pilgrimage is decided by the lunar calendar which was set this year in the middle of the scorching Saudi summer where temperature is reaching as high as 51.8 degree celsius.
After the death of almost a hundred Indians, the Health ministry revealed a roadmap for the health services for the pilgrims and how to avail them.
The roadmap contains details about health screenings, providing fitness certificates to the pilgrims, providing vaccines to states for vaccination camps, establishing health desks among several other measures.
This is a precautionary step from the government to ensure that no such mishaps occur in the future. But, the heat has been a tragedy this summer, especially in the northern and central states where temperature has crossed the 50°C mark in several cities. Many have lost their lives due to heat stroke while incidents of fire has increased which has led to infrastructural loss as well as the loss of lives.
Government and we, as a society, need to work together to curb global warming down because if we don’t, it is going to be get even worse in the coming years.
