
India and the United States have had many rounds of discussion about the alleged involvement of an Indian national in an attempted assassination of a US national. The accused, Nikhil Gupta was in Czech Republic for a long time and there were speculations around his arrest. The man has been extradited to the United Nations after Czech authorities arrested him.
Nikhil is an accused in plotting the assassination of Sikh separatist Gurpatwant Singh Pannun. This became an international issue and also created a lot of friction between the two countries in terms of foreign relations.

Indian authorities were cooperating with the US counterparts all this time for proper investigation into the matter. There were allegations that the Indian government could also be involved in the killing. These claims were outright rejected by the government of India.
This is not the first case of an Indian being accused of trying to kill a Sikh separatist in a foreign country. Canada is also accusing the involvement of India in one such case and that allegation disrupted the ties between the two countries. Nikhil Gupta will have to face trial in the USA and he’ll be in jail for the period.
