An alleged domestic dispute in North Carolina has turned into a serious criminal case involving an Indian origin restaurant owner. The incident has drawn attention due to the severity of the charges. Authorities are continuing their investigation into the matter.

Mathivanan Pothiyappan, a 49 year old owner of the restaurant CholaNad, was first arrested on April 4. He faced charges including domestic violence, assault on a female, and communicating threats. Later, an additional charge of attempted first degree murder was added.

According to police documents, he allegedly attacked his wife using a bag filled with medicine. He is also accused of threatening her with a knife. The situation escalated when their daughter reportedly called 911 after witnessing the incident.

Reports suggest that the victim ran out of the house during the altercation. Investigators also stated that the accused allegedly chased her in a car. The victim has claimed there were previous instances of verbal and physical abuse.

Initially, bail was set at 5,000 dollars. After more serious allegations surfaced, it was increased to 100,000 dollars. As part of pre trial conditions, he must surrender his passport and avoid any contact with his family.

CholaNad, the restaurant owned by the accused, was known in the local community for South Indian cuisine. Following the arrest, reports indicate that the establishment has been temporarily closed.

The case is still under investigation. Authorities have not yet announced a court hearing date. Further developments are expected as the legal process continues.
