In a recent turn of events in Ontario, Canada, three individuals of Indian origin have been apprehended by the authorities following the discovery of fake cardboard license plates and a small cache of drugs in their possession.
Lovepreet Singh (33), Prabhpreet Singh (28), and Rajwinder Mangat (37) were taken into custody and now face a total of eight charges, including obstructing a peace officer, as reported by CP24 news channel.
The incident unfolded last week when the police responded to a call at a Monarch Drive business around 2:25 pm. The initial reports indicated that a group matching the description of the suspects had been involved in several recent thefts and was observed loading electronic devices into a shopping cart.
Upon arrival at the scene, the suspects chose to abandon the ill-gotten goods and attempted to leave the premises. However, officers engaged with the trio, leading to an ensuing investigation, according to the Ontario Provincial Police.
During the course of the inquiry, law enforcement officers uncovered a bizarre attempt at evasion – the license plate displayed on the suspects’ vehicle was crafted from cardboard. The police noted the “art and craft skills” employed in making the counterfeit plate, highlighting the lengths some individuals go to avoid detection.
While the plate numbers on the cardboard were not directly linked to the vehicle at the scene, investigators determined that they matched those of a vehicle of the same make, model, and color. This discovery prompted the authorities to take all three suspects into custody.
In addition to the fake plates, a search of the suspects yielded a small quantity of cocaine and methamphetamine. The arrest underscores the intersection of creative deception and criminal activity, leaving law enforcement to grapple with inventive tactics employed by those seeking to evade the authorities.
