Last year few Indian students, including young women were caught shoplifting in the U.S., with their arrest videos going viral. The footage not only embarrassed the individuals involved but also deeply shamed their families back home.

On June 15th, 2025, a deputy Constable Mark Herman’s Office responded to a reported shoplifter at the Houston Premium Outlets located in the 29300 block of the Northwest Fwy. The complainant reported that a male suspect walked into the Sunglass Hut and concealed a pair of sunglasses valued at $563.00 and passed all point of sale without paying for the product.

Constable Deputies quickly located the suspect and identified him as Kiran Raparthu. The stolen sunglasses were recovered and returned to the business. “Kiran Raparthi was arrested and booked into the Harris County Jail, for Theft. His bond was set at $100.00 out of County Court 13.” – Constable Mark Herman

Deputy Graham, from Constable Mark Herman’s office, made the arrest in the 29300 block of the Northwest Freeway.

This is just one of many such incidents involving Indian students abroad.

Despite multiple warnings and past examples, some still choose to engage in theft — a move that is not only illegal but foolish beyond words.

It is sheer stupidity to throw away one’s future like this while studying abroad. Actions like these follow you for life and haunt. Tragic and senseless.
