Shameful news has come from Singapore regarding a few Indian nationals. A group of Indian nationals had started shoplifting.
Four have been sentenced to jail under the charges of conspiracy to steal apparels worth over SGD 1,700. They had developed a formula to do their bid. First, they will remove the RFID (Radio Frequency Identification) so that the security alarms will not go off once they leave. They bought tote bags from the self check-our counters, put the clothes in the bags and left.
Chauhan Ruchi Sanjaykumar 25, Kuvadya Milan Ghansyam hai 26, Shihora Ridham Mukeshbhai 20 and Hun Smith Ashokbai are the ones who were caught. They share the same apartment in Singapore.
They were sentenced terms ranging from 40 to 65 days depending upon the nature of role played in the act and previous record.
Indian diaspora make up about 10% of Singapore’s population and like any other country, Indians and their descendants have contributed a lot in the development of Singapore. Even the newly elected President, Tharman Shanmugaratnam, is of Indian origin.
Activities like these harm the image of the Indians living in Singapore who actually want to do good for themselves and eventually help in the development of the nation. Whether incidents like these become a habit or die down, only time will tell.
