The United Kingdom is one of the top destinations for Indian students who are looking to get a degree from a foreign university. Every year thousands of students apply for a study visa in the UK to live their European dream. A new data release reveals that the number of Indians getting a successful UK visa increased quite significantly over the years.
Indians account for 27 percent of all study visas approved by the United Kingdom between September 2022-2023. Indians constitute the largest group of foreign nationals with over 1.3 lakh visa approvals in the same time period. But the most staggering increase in visa approvals comes in the UK dependent visa category for Indians.
Between the year 2019 and 2023, visas approved to dependents of Indian students grew 1900 percent. The number grew from 2,127 in 2019 to 43,445 in 2023. This is the second highest number of visa approvals in the category after Nigeria.
Indians also received 43 percent of all graduate route extensions which is also the highest for any country. The government of the UK is planning to discontinue the UK dependent visa for students from January 2024.
