After the recent growing attacks on minorities like the Sikh community in the USA, there was an immediate need for intervention in the matter. It was the need of the hour that a higher authority not only address the issue but also assure the members of the community of their safety. The mayor of New York City, Eric Adams not only tried to condemn these attacks but showed the importance of cultural diversity by wearing a turban himself.
Turban has been wrongly associated with terrorism in the West for quite some time. The recent attack on a young boy traveling in a bus being assaulted because of a turban had shocked not only the Sikh community but also a major part of the USA. In an attempt to break this notion and fear around turban, the city mayor decided to wear one himself. He also stressed that the turban symbolizes faith and not terrorism.
Eric also said that the authorities will be using the state tools in this battle against hate crime against the Sikh community. A few days back an elderly man was punched and attacked after his car collided with that of a thirty year old. This was the second attack in a span of few days.
