OCI Cards: New Location, Faster Delivery

OCI Cards New Printing Location

I submitted an OCI application for my child for planned travel. It’s been over 8 weeks, and it’s still pending. Is there any way to expedite it? Calling VFS doesn’t help; they give repetitive answers, saying it’s not under their control, and the delay is from the embassy. This is a common complaint from Indians applying for OCI cards.

Finally, the Consulate General of India, San Francisco, has announced a statement that could bring some relief to applicants.

Now, OCI cards are being printed in San Francisco. This means a significant reduction in waiting time – by a substantial two weeks.

However, there are growing complaints about the communication system in case of delays or expediting in emergencies. Applicants panic, hoping the Indian consulate takes the feedback to replace their systems with advanced processes to help applicants in real emergency situations.

Recent guidelines suggest that if you have received a new passport, OCI cardholders need to upload a copy of their new passport and a recent photo (not older than 30 days) online every time they receive a new passport.
