Since India imposed a ban on exporting non-Basmati rice, the Telugu community in the U.S., with a large population, has been making headlines.
Videos have gone viral, and people are trolling Telugu folks for their desperate attempt to secure white rice. However, they have their side of the story.
Speaking anonymously to M9News, Telugu individuals in U.S. expressed extreme disappointment with the Modi government. According to the World Bank’s official report, India received $100 billion in remittances last year from NRIs. They wonder why the government cannot even export white rice.
While they acknowledge the importance of people back home, they feel the Indian government treated them as unimportant.
They also question the government’s use of their $100 billion remittances. Banks provide loans to people in India, and their money supports various growth avenues, yet the government cannot supply rice to NRIs?
The rice ban has greatly affected the Telugu community outside India more than any other. As debates continue, they hope the ban will be lifted soon.
